The First Week at Mason: 1+2+1 Sample Student Schedule
Students arrive together in the middle of August, after a pre-departure briefing conducted in Beijing by CCIEE. The first week at Mason is full of activity. Here's a sampling of what to expect:
Day one/Friday night
- 30 new 1+2+1 students arrive from China at Dulles National Airport.Met at the airport by Mason faculty and staff representatives and other 1+2+1 students. Taken by bus to the dormitory for check-in and a good night's sleep!
Day two/Saturday
- Rest all morning until 1 pm: Meet Diane Wang/Madelyn Ross at the dormitory for a brief orientation and walk around campus. Receive schedule for first week on campus. Questions and answers.
Day three/Sunday
- Free day for unpacking, shopping, and rest.
Day four/Monday
- 9:30am: All students meet in the lobby of the dormitory. Students who have not passed TOEFL will go with Diane to take English (CELT) test. Remaining studens go with Madelyn to regular freshman orientation. Students who passed TOEFL may take the CELT test OR go to regular freshmen orientation.
- 10:00am: ELI placement test (CELT Test-3 hours).
- 1 to 2pm Lunch
- 2:30pm: Diane will meet with all students to get Mason ID cards. When finished, students will open mailboxes and and bank accounts. Students must bring their passports with them.
Day five/Tuesday
- 9am to 4pm: International Student Orientation presented by Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS).
- 4:00pm: After orientation, Diane will help students get Mason ID, mailbox, meal plan and bank account.
Day six/Wednesday
- 9am: OIPS Orientation part two (Registration procedures)
- 12-4:00pm: ELI Orientation for all ELI students. Other 1+2+1 students may attend or go back to OIPS Orientation
- 4:00pm: Immigration Check In at Office of International Programs and Services Location: SUB I, Room 202. Note: Students must bring passports and all immigration documents
Day seven/Thursday
- 10:00am to 1:00pm: Special Orientation for China 1+2+1 students
- 1:00pm to 2:00pm: Lunch for all 1+2+1 students
- 2:30pm: Diane will meet with all students . Students will recieve ELI test results. Diane will help students register if they passed ELI test. Other students will check-in with Mason Health Clinic for immunization records, open bank accounts, get Mason ID.
Day eight/Friday
- Morning and afternoon: Students will finish first week activities as needed: Clinic check, bank accounts, Mason ID cards
- 6:00-8:00pm: Welcome Reception for all international students
Day nine/Saturday
- 12:30-5:30pm: Field trip to Washington DC by bus
Day ten/Sunday
- Rest
